We see these books as an exciting extension of our workshops and events aiming to encourage people to take their pencil for a walk; by drawing on location, exploring new working methods, and getting outside to observe the world around them. Overall, a friendly piece of creative encouragement you can carry around in your pocket 📓. Written and curated by us, Small Fry duo @maisysummer and @swillistrations.
In these books you’ll also meet our ‘Friends of Small Fry’ (FOSF) professional illustrators, designers and artists we’ve worked with before, as we ask them how they put their ideas into practice exploring questions around; composition, sketchbooks, materials, texture, research, type & colour. The books aim to give you a creative boost this summer and beyond; no matter if you’re a beginner or amid a creative career - we could all do with a bit of friendly guidance alongside fun prompts to get inspired.
☁️ Draw In | This book identifies & unpicks common creative hurdles that hold us back derived from our personal experiences in industry & intertwined with insights from the FOSF to guide you through the artistic process and help shed some light.
✏️ Draw Out | Is the sidekick of Draw in, an interactive workbook that puts theory into practice encouraging you to get out and draw. Centered around 3 field trips each comprising of a range of drawing prompts, briefs, tips, and challenges to help feel ready to take on your next creative project.
